BLOG: China is the Opportunity

We had a very fruitful week in Shanghai after Hong Kong last week.

We were delighted to be invited to attend the first-ever Best of British show at the stunning Shanghai Exhibition Centre, which partnered with the British Consulate General Shanghai, the Department for International Trade and the GREAT Campaign. During the four-day event, some 150 innovative British brands were showcasing to over 5,000 Chinese buyers and consumers. It was great to have made many new contacts, have lots of good business meetings with our local partners and companies, and get to do some sightseeing during our stay there.

Personally I am very impressed by how digital life is in China. Everything is paid by QR code from restaurant bills, bike rentals to bubble tea on the high streets. One of my Shanghaiese friends who is in her mid 20s told me that she rarely or almost never brings her wallet or cash with her – as her phone is her wallet. As long as she has her phone, she can pay almost everything with her WeChat or apps on her phone. Arguably, China is really leading the world in terms of digital advancement and innovation. No doubt, China is the Opportunity for businesses in the next few decades.
